B day cakes.

I use wiltons for more than just dyeing yarn, I decorate cakes with it. To save money and because I enjoy it, I make my children's birthday cakes. They pick out what they would like and I do my best to create it. Last year my son wanted a Spiderman cake so here it is.

Here is a pic of my son's 5th bday cake:

I decided to dye more yarn today. I had bought 2 small skiens of wool at a thrift store for 5o cents each and figured they would work well for some experimenting. I hanked them up on my ironing board and then divided each hank into 4 parts. I then tied them off. I picked three colors to dye with, blue (royal blue and sky blue wiltons food coloring), Green (royal blue and yellow wiltons mixed together) and yellow wiltons. These were left over from my last dyeing session so figured I would use them up. I put 3 jars with the colors in the pot and then put the divided hanks into each color. Here's pics :

long time, no blog

Well it has been over a month since I blogged so let's catch up.

Yarn:

I've dyed quite a few skeins of wool. My favorites are a skien of fisherman's wool that turned out in blues/purple and a bit of green. I've casted on a traveling woman's shawl http://feminisity.com/blog/traveling-woman/ in this newly created color. I love it so far. Here's a pic of the colorway up above. Will have to take and upload some pics of the shawl's progress.
Haven't done any fishing, however this coming week I am off so I plan on maybe going fishing one day with my 6 year old son. We'll just have to see. We're preparing him for the new school year and attending a new school. I can't tell if he is excited or not. Right now he just wants to go to the water park on our week off, so we'll go. We're planning a hike too. Going to an old quartz mine called Crystal Peak. It is close to home and I'm hoping we will find some crystals. None of us have been there, but I did take a test drive up to it to see how far and how rustic the area is. It is really nice there with a great campground and decent pit toilets. We should have a great time.
Have a great week all and keep on knitting.

New Year Celebration!

Well I'm officially 41 today! I'm not sure how I feel about that, but I am glad to be in good health, well loved and pretty darn happy. I'm going to work on my goals for the year. Unlike New Years, I make my resolutions on my b-day, however many times I don't write them down, but this year I'm going to commit to them by writing them down. Maybe I will accomplish them if I put it in writing. I need to work on my 101 things to do in a year anyway, so what better excuse than my b-day!

Today I'm off work so, since the weather is finally good here, I'm going to work in the garden and yard. I'm going to finish setting up planting beds and drips and start planting my summer veg and fruit. I'm then going to move on to cleaning the swimming pool so we can get that going and maybe start swimming when the weather really decides to stay warm. If I have time, I may move some rock and fix up the back yard a bit so once all the concrete for our new patio is laid, it will look like someone cares.

On the knitting forefront, I am still working on my rainbow socks. I casted on "Bread Basket Liner" by Amy King from the Knitters book of Yarn. It is a birthday gift for my sister in law and is going to be a very easy knit. I am also pondering what shawl I'm going to start for my mom in law for her birthday. It will come soon. Tomorrow my mom and I are going to dye more yarn!! Yeah for dyeing.

Have a Fab day!!

Tuesday, dye day!

Kool Aid Adventures!

Today I tried my hands at kool aid dyeing. I had a skein of yarn that I just didn't like the color of, so I went to google and found a article on knitty, http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall02/FEATdyedwool.html The article gave all the instruction I needed to try my hand at overdyeing the yucky colored yarn. I got out the yucky yarn, put in fruit punch and set it on the stove to heat up. It came out cool! I wish I had remembered to take some before pics, but I was so inspired and excited, I got out another skein of wool to dye. The best part was I didn't need any special equipment and clean up was so easy! I will definitly be trying this again.

It's a lazy Sunday!

Hi! My name is Nicky and here I am finally writing a blog. I have been wanting to start a blog for quite some time, but just haven't had the nerve or the time. My goal is to talk about my favorite hobbies and a bit about my lifestyle.

Today not much happened. Worked on my "July Baby Blanket" which actually needs to be done in June, June 12th to be exact. Have a pair of rainbow socks on the needles too. Am working on the second sock on magic loop, toe up, however, haven't really been working on it lately. Need to finish it for the Jimmy Beans KAL by the end of May.

As for fishing, hubby and I are planning on going on Wednesday! Cross your fingers we catch something.

Stay Well!
